Choose how far apart you want the fence posts spaced. (Note: Always fence to the needs of your livestock, and environmental conditions. Example: natural water, rolling hills, high wind and woodland areas, may require an extra post to shorten distance between posts).

Industry Standard Configurations

Based on the type of animal you are fencing see the industry standard reference below for a few suggestions.

Adjustments to the number of strands and spacing may be made based on the fence manufacturer recommendations and landowners preference for critical confinement/exclusion fences.

Cattle (Steers, Cows and Calves)
  • Post Spacing - 15 -20ft, max 30ft space for posts
  • Wire Types - Electric wire 6 strands, barbed wire 6 strands
Horses and Foals
  • Post Spacing - 15-20FT , max 30FT space for posts
  • Wire Types - Electric wire 3 strands or non electric wire 6 strands, poly tape 3 strands electric, 6 strands non-electric tape. Barbed wire not suggested
Sheep and Lambs
  • Post Spacing - 8-12ft space for post
  • Wire Types - Electric wire 5 strands, poly tape 5 strands electric or non-electric tape
Goats and Kids
  • Post Spacing - 8-12ft space for posts
  • Wire Types - Electric wire 5 strands, poly tape 5 strands electric or non-electric tape
Dogs and Other Pets
  • Post Spacing - 8-12ft space for posts
  • Wire Types - Electric wire 5 strands, poly tape 5 strands electric or non-electric tape
Gardeners
  • Post Spacing - 8-12 ft space for post
  • Post Spacing - Electric wire 3 strands, electric poly tape 3 strands
Bee Farmers
  • Post Spacing - 8-12ft space for post
